Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

You are welcome to call me on 07391698517 and speak to me directly and informally about any queries you may have prior to making an appointment or you may choose to agree a convenient date and time then and there. If you reach my voicemail, please leave a message with your name and number and your intention, whether to find out more information or to agree a convenient time to meet, indicating preferred days and times, whether morning, afternoon or evening.

Alternatively you may prefer to email me at karenhautz@hotmail.co.uk, providing your name and number and your intention, whether to find out more information or to agree an informal initial phone call or to agree a convenient time to meet, indicating preferred days and times, whether morning, afternoon or evening.

What can I expect in my first appointment? This is my first experience of counselling.

The intention is to help you feel better and hopeful already in the first session.  This means that it is important to understand your circumstances and feelings and thoughts yet also help by sharing practical strategies that you may begin to use immediately, by teaching you ways to relax and to help you think about your problems in new and more empowering ways.  There is no requirement to dwell unduly on the past in detail.  The approach is collaborative, inviting you to identify the changes that would make a difference in your life and for those important others in your life.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people can be helped in 4-6 sessions although some people require only one or two sessions to achieve their required results. Some people with more complex difficulties may require more.

The sessions are not designed to be multiple or long term. My intention is to work with you to achieve the outcome you want in as short a timeframe as possible – and then for you to move on, fully equipped for your next life chapter.

What do I need for an online counselling session?

Depending on your personal preference and experience, it is possible to schedule an online session via Zoom or Skype or other video conferencing medium. It is necessary to download the necessary software application (available free of charge) onto your PC or laptop. The opportunity to sit comfortably in a suitably private environment during the session is important. You may prefer to wear headphones during the session. This is optional. A short practise meeting can be agreed if unfamiliar with the necessary technology, prior to the actual session.

I prefer to see you in person at your London office. What about parking? What about public transport? What about disabled access? What about social distancing?

For those choosing to drive to a meeting, there is free street parking at all times except between 10 - 12 midday. If visiting during these hours, it will be necessary to pay for parking via a mobile phone app, details of which are available on nearby parking meters. The location is outside the Congestion Charge zone. Public transport connections are excellent: Northern Line - Clapham Common tube station - is minutes away; also multiple bus routes. The therapy room is on the ground floor and there are no steps that may limit access. Please do flag any particular requirements when we speak.

The therapy room allows for you to be comfortably seated while also permitting the appropriate and necessary social distancing. I may wear a perspex visor also if requested.

Is it ok to enquire on someone else’s behalf?

You may have a loved one - son or daughter, friend, relative, partner, spouse - about whom you are concerned and for whom you think counselling may help. You are welcome to contact me for a short, informal consultation at no charge to understand how the Human Givens approach may help and how you may wish to explore this option with them.
