My aim is to give you ideas, skills & techniques, right from the first session, that enable you to start making a difference to your situation.

The Human Givens approach offers a clear understanding of what we all need to feel emotionally well and be able to flourish in our individual lives: https://www.humangivens.com/human-givens/human-givens-therapy/how-human-givens-helps/

  1.  Security – safe territory and an environment which allows us to develop fully

  2. Attention - to give it to and receive it from significant others

  3.  Sense of autonomy and control – being able to make responsible choices about our own lives

  4.  Emotional intimacy – to know that at least one other person accepts us totally for who we are

  5.  Community – feeling connected to a group or groups beyond family

  6.  Status – being appreciated for our contributions within the social groupings of which we are a part

  7.  Privacy – opportunity to reflect and consolidate experience

  8.  Achievement – when you can say to yourself: “I’m glad I did that!”

  9.  Meaning – which comes from being stretched in what we do and how we think

When one or more of these needs are not met in balance, which can happen to all of us from time to time, we may experience emotional distress and find it hard to chart a way through our difficulties.

Human Givens counselling is aimed at helping the individual identify realistic and healthy ways of getting these emotional needs met.  It is designed to get the person back out there, functioning better as quickly as possible.

 What I will do:

  • Help you find ways to deal with the particular difficulties you are facing now.

  • Set clear goals which will allow you to keep track of your progress from session to session.

  • Aim to have you leave each session feeling better than when you arrived.

  • Explore with you what coping skills can be better developed and which available resources can be put to better use.

  • Explore with you if there is a past trauma event that could be making your life challenging now.   An effective protocol is available to clear the lasting emotional effect of a trauma without the need to disclose upsetting and painful details.

  • Agree with you, at the end of each session, whether and when you need a further session.  We work as a team.

Client testimonial:

AK, 24 year old woman

 About me:

My own professional life has been shaped by those close to me.  Several years ago, a close family member developed extreme feelings of anxiety.  The Human Givens counselling approach was hugely helpful in enabling this individual regain equilibrium and direction, prompting me to find out more and leading to my own training and qualification as a Human Givens practitioner.

I have gained a diploma from the Human Givens Institute (Hg. Dip. P). The Human Givens Institute’s Professional Register of Human Givens practitioners is independently accredited in the UK by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA), the same government authority that oversees BACP, the General Medical Council, UKCP and many others.

I am fully qualified to offer counselling to help with a range of emotional difficulties for teenagers and adults.   My aim is to get you participating fully in life as quickly as possible.

Since the arrival of Covid-19 & given the sudden immense changes in how we live, many clients are choosing to have online sessions.

That said, I offer also a private counselling room from my London home for those people who wish to have face-to-face conversations.

Clients may even prefer to choose a mix of online and in-person meetings, depending on their schedules and circumstances at any particular time.

I have had over thirty years professional experience working in many diverse roles including as a speech and language therapist within the NHS, sales and marketing manager in the corporate sector and working as a learning and life skills coach for people with dyslexia, ADD and autism.  This life experience serves as a valuable resource in my counselling work.

I benefit from regular supervision and develop my knowledge and skills ongoing through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and peer reviews.  I hold up-to-date DBS clearance and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (www.ico.org.uk) which upholds data privacy for individuals.

I live in London with my husband, two teenage children and two rescue dogs.
